Jewelry History

I started officially making jewelry in 202 at the height of COVID. I started out with wire wrapping, graduating to classes at a local bead store, BEAD IT. I learned how work with .999 (fine) silver, to solder, properly wire wrap, working with bezel cups, and eventually learning how to make my own bezel cups.

I graduated with a bachelors of art at the University of Hawaii Manoa and ended my last semester with a small scale sculpture class that focused on metal working. I learned how to do cold work such as riveting, it was my first experience in casting, enameling, making an ingot and pulling wire. My favorite thing I've done in my journey, is making bezels and casting pieces :)

My favorite gem

My favorite gem is blue tourmaline, I love the color blue and something about that blue in tourmaline reminds me of candy! It just looks too good!

I also love a flashy labradorite or rainbow moonstone. I could watch the color play all day! It makes it so fun to wear, especially in the sunlight where you can see the rainbow from every angle!

My inspiration

"We cannot force someone to hear a message they are not ready to receive. But we must never underestimate the power of planting a seed."

My inspiration for Dazed Gem was to make "little seeds of healing". During 202 the whole world stopped; work, social lives, and so many other integral parts of our lives. At this time I was trying to find a purpose outside of my everyday job and found the healing world of crystals. From personal introspection, what I've learned; a lot of the time we are our own problem, standing in our own way and that can be a hard thing to realize.

Crystals helped to remind me daily, that I had the power to change the course of my life, no matter how small the changes were. I used my crystals as daily reminders of those seeds I planted for the bigger picture. I wanted to be more intentional in life, I wanted to become more patient and happy being who I am.

In that quote, it's not just about a goal that you reach and then you're done. It's an intention that you can continuously grow into. In making my art, I wanted to incorporate reminders that you aren't alone. I made these little seeds of healing and intention to remind you of your journey and your growth.
